We can bring the LactoScope FTA to your site for a demonstration or a short term trial. Please contact us if you would like to arrange this.

The LactoScope FTA milk analyser provides accurate measurement of the composition of diary liquids with high and variable viscosity. The FTA has a high powered pumping system and dual homogeniser. It can homogenise and analyse dairy and plant-based samples containing up to 55% fat within 30 seconds.

Measurement

Milk analysers like the LactoScope FTA analyse by measuring absorption. Homogenising the sample ensures smaller and uniform particle size which allows reliable and repeatable measurement. Products from skimmed milk to extra thick double cream are measured without blocking or breaking down. A wide range of products can be analysed using the instrument, from skim to 55% cream, whey concentrates, ice cream, yogurt bases and plant based liquids. The LactoScope FTA is also capable of accurate analysis of set dairy products such as crème fraiche, custards and mousses, clotted cream and cream cheese.

Calibration

Calibration updates are very simple because of an automatic outlier detection. All LactoScopes are backed by our comprehensive training, calibration and support package. Choosing a LactoScope for your dairy product testing provides you with a high specification milk analyzer at a competitive price.

Products – Raw milk, skimmed milk, pasteurized UHT milk, whey, whey concentrate, cream < 55% fat, yogurt, ice cream
Parameters – Fat, protein, lactose, totals solids, solids non fat, added water, true protein, casein, NPN-CU, free fatty acids, citric acid, density, pH

Analysis of High Fat Cream

Achieving consistent repeatability when analysing high fat cream can be a challenge for some dairy analysers.

The LactoScope FTA milk analyser is equipped to deal with the complications associated with measuring high fat dairy samples. Because it has an extremely efficient pumping system and homogenizer capable of dealing with highly viscous products.

This video shows the FTA achieving a very low standard deviation when measuring 50% fat cream.

“We are very happy to have purchased the LactoScope, it is much faster than the previous machine and results are more repeatable. This  means fewer retests during processing and more confidence for production. QCL’s excellent support has been very valuable while moving to the new machine.

“Our choice for selecting the FTA was after careful considerations of the benefits of this instrument which outweighed those of similar functional instruments. What we have experienced is a well-built instrument, with low ongoing cost of ownership. It needs only small quantities of generic chemicals to operate and no costly bespoke solutions. There is also no need for standardisation. The instruments we have found reliable and robust. Calibrations appear to remain stable over long intervals and calibration verification is very easy. They do not require a calibration expert. Operator interface is easy to use and the software is operator friendly”

The PerkinElmer LactoScope milk analysers integrated homogenizer and sample pre-heater allow for the standardization of temperature and particle size of fat globules before measurement. This allows for optimal accuracy, repeatability and performance

  • Analyze a wide range of products regardless of sample viscosity and with no additional effort or sample preparation
  • Automatic clean cycles and zeros maintain the sample pumping unit and the measuring cell in optimal conditions. Therefore the overall reliability and accuracy of the instrument is improved

Technology

  • The patented Dynascan Interferometer features a fixed-mirror-pair design. This does not require dynamic alignment to compensate for errors
  • The OpticsGuard technology features a unique humidity shield design that protects the instrument from environmental effects. This  increases up-time, reducing costs and allows it to be used in challenging conditions
  • A wide-range of calibrations are included with robust packages. Products include raw, standardized and processed milks, whey and cream
  • The intuitive and powerful Windows-based Results Plus software enables easy operation of the instrument. Also simplified workflows require little effort or cost to train users for instrument operation
  • Remote instrument configuration and monitoring is available with the NetPlus cloud solution. This provides the potential to easily set up a master/satellite network for users with multiple LactoScope instruments

Why Homogenization is Key for Quality Control in Dairy

Mitigating Matrix Effects in the Analysis of Milk by FTIR Spectroscopy

Thorough and reproducible quality control programs are paramount to a successful dairy processing operation. Such programs ensure that dairy products are safe to consume, meet brand standards for taste and texture.

Why Homogenization is Key for Quality Control in Dairy

Fast and effective quality control in the dairy processing industry is key. Particularly with more challenging high viscous products.

Identifying Quality Parameters in Milk Using the LactoScope FTA

Efficient production of high-quality dairy products requires full control of incoming milk. Milk at intake may be of a different composition than that of the milk to be marketed. Therefore processors must adjust the composition as per requirements.

Analysis of Plant-Based Milk Using the Lactoscope

Plant-based milks are becoming increasingly popular with consumers as they seek healthier, non-animal-based options to milk protein. Unlike animal sourced milk, in plant-based milk production there are frequent changes between crop years and in crop sources.
