Reduce operating costs associated with traditional PCR
Good hygiene practices and a rapid turnover in trade prevent most microbiology issues when producing cask conditioned beers. However as the brewing process becomes more complex, with filtration, yeast re-pitching, extended shelf life and supply lines with complex packaging options, microbial risks will increase exponentially.
BioMerieux Veriflow is an alternative to traditional PCR, a rapid microbiology system for detecting spoilage bacteria, wild yeasts and diastatic strains. By checking the microbial status of your beer at various stages of the process you can release final product in a timely manner and with greater confidence.
Spoilage Bacteria – Pediococcus and Lactobacillus, Megasphaera and Pectinatus
Wild Yeasts – Saccharomyces Diastaticus, Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, Dekkera/Brettanomyces
“We decided to invest in this kit primarily for the positive release of our bottle conditioned ale and in the future potentially for yeast slurry prior to pitching to avoid costly pitching of infected yeast”
Sarah Marshall, Laboratory Manager, Shepherd Neame
“The Veriflow rapid PCR testing gives us quick results that offer peace of mind before repitching our yeast and proceeding to the next steps of the production process”
Robyn Bell, Tank Manager, Cloudwater
“The Veriflow PCR system is very fast and easy to use. It allows me to check all beers for spoilers and wild yeasts before they are put through my canning line and is now a crucial part of my QC procedure”
Jeremy Cook, Founder, Missing Link Brewing
