Cryoscope Repeatability Guide

Using these sample handling and operational techniques can improve repeatability of results when using the Advanced Instruments 4250 Cryoscope.

The repeatability specification for the C4250 Cryoscope is: l Std. Deviation < 2 mºC or mºH between 0 and -400 mºC

1/ Sample tube cleanliness is extremely important for repeatability. Glass tubes should be washed in hot water containing a nonionic detergent, then rinsed in distilled water and thoroughly dried before each use.

2/ Always treat all samples the same for every test. Treat standards and reference solutions exactly the same as the routine samples. Do not mix different tube types.

3/ To avoid contamination and evaporation, cover all samples not for immediate testing.

4/ Always use the same sample volume (during calibration, testing etc.).

5/ For repeat runs use another sample from the same source or thaw the original sample before repeating. If the same sample must be rerun, or used for another procedure, remove it from the freezing chamber as soon as possible and keep it covered between tests.

6/ Always use the same operating procedure as consistency is the key to repeatable results.

7/ The first reading in any given period of operation may be slightly off due to temperature conditioning or residual contamination of the probe.

8/ Discard obviously discrepant readings as long as the instrument has been producing accurate readings repeatedly. Repeat the reading in question.
