The Turbosog Fume scrubber can be used for the removal and neutralisation of acid fumes. The system connects to the exhaust manifolds of the traditional Kjeldahl digestion system, Kjeldatherm, Turbotherm and SMA Trace Metal digestion systems. The system can also be successfully connected to non-Gerhardt equipment for the same application.
The principle of operation is the creation of a vortex within the water chamber to form a vacuum. Little service is required as there is no need for activated carbon filters. Fumes are pulled through an empty bottle to collect condensate, then through a neutralising solution of alkali before diluting with water and going to drain. For large volumes of condensate from digestion an additional cooling unit with bottle and condenser may be attached. Cooling water flow may be adjusted to suit the digestion.
